TCP/IP flag day

On January 1, 1983, ARPANET switched from NCP to TCP/IP — a coordinated cutover that made 'internetworking' the network's native language.

Why it matters

One protocol family to connect networks of different kinds: the decision that scaled. Every device that says IP today is a citizen of the architecture chosen that day.
